RCY RIDE
REPORT
Bulldog Loop
Sunday
06-01-08
It was a beautiful day for a Bulldog
climb. Under cool, clear blue skies, a fine group of RCYers showed
up, proving that, to paraphrase Mark Twain, the recent reports of the
demise of the RCY are premature. We had 3 out of the 4 present-day ride
coordinators/pickers, 1 ex-picker, several Santa Cruz bikes, at least
1 Cannondale and an Intense, 2 orthopedists, 1 podiatrist, 1
businessman, and 1 retired postal worker.....yes, it was quite a
turnout.
The group proceeded from our corner
parking area into Malibu Creek State Park, thru the Rock Garden (which was in
surprisingly good shape), and up the notorious climb of the Bulldog
Motorway. We 5 hearty pedalers--Rod, Matthew, George, Joe, and
Rob--strained and groaned our way up the steep incline....I was able to keep up
only because the other 4 had ridden 55+ miles the day before with our sister
road riding group, the BBKings.

Like the energizer
bunny, George went up and down sections of Bulldog to ride up with
others
Joe grinning as
he reaches the top of the grueling climb
Rod also smiles--or
is that a grimace--as he reaches the pinnacle of the torturous
climb
Meanwhile at the
top, Matthew is preparing his world-famous Apples
After a brief rest and some
refueling, we headed down towards the Corral Canyon Parking Area.

We continued on our way to The
Elevator. The views of the ocean and the surrounding area were
beautiful.

At the bottom of The Elevator
we headed into Tapia Park to take the Tapia Spur Trail back into Malibu Creek
State Park.

Climbing up Tapia Spur,
Matthew had a slight mechanical problem when his chain jammed between his rear
cogs and spokes. But with a little tugging and manipulation we got the
chain out and continued on our way.

Back at the vehicles, 3 of us
drove over to the Santa Fe Cafe for some chatting and chewing, ending a great
day of mountain biking! See you next time.
Humbly submitted,
Robco Baggins
